Bolt sets world record in 100 meters

Like a bolt out of nowhere, Usain Bolt is now the world's fastest man. The Jamaican runner, who doesn't even consider the 100 meters his best race, set the world record Saturday night with a time of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix, .02 seconds faster than the old record held by his countryman, Asafa Powell. Bolt was using the 100 for "speed work" and to avoid having to run the more grueling 400, when, suddenly, he ran the world's second-fastest time last month at 9.76.

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds makes a leaping catch in the outfield on a fly ball hit by Washington Nationals' Lastings Milledge in the ninth inning of a baseball game Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks won 4-0.

Hoping to rouse his slumping team, Arizona manager Bob Melvin called a clubhouse meeting three hours before Saturday's game. All he really needed to do was pencil Brandon Webb's name onto his lineup card. Webb threw his eighth career shutout and the Diamondbacks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.

For a guy who insists he's still trying to regain his form, Scott Kazmir sure is pitching well. The 2007 AL strikeout champion won his fifth straight start Saturday night, allowing three hits in seven innings to outpitch Javier Vazquez in AL East-leading Tampa Bay's 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night.
